Annual Maintenance

District Staff work to ensure that Water Supply Sources, Water Storage and Water Distribution Assets are always in the best possible working order. To accomplish this the District has several preventative maintenance programs that take place throughout the year.

Valve Trailer

Lakewood Water District has 6,160 Isolation Valves scattered throughout the District. Every year Lakewood Water District Staff locate and exercise one third of those valves to ensure they are in good working order, clean and easy to find in an emergency.

To gather accurate information on buried valves and help with cleanup the District uses a Valve Maintenance Trailer. This trailer has a small industrial vacuum and a hydraulic valve turning arm. Be advised that valves are often located in intersections, so please slow down when approaching this equipment.

Hydrant

One of the most important things Lakewood Water District does is provide water to 3,729 Fire Hydrants throughout the District. Those Hydrants provide the water West Pierce Fire & Rescue needs to protect lives and property in our community. To ensure those Hydrants work when needed, the District works with WPFR to maintain these important assets.
